Open Day, Saturday 24th February 2024 @10:00am
4-BEP 2304 OPEN DAY FREE EVENT!
We have convinced the Railway to allow us to showcase the train! On the 24th February, we shall have it cleaned up and positioned in the platform at Chinnor.
You are all welcome to come and take a look around this former Southern Region 4-carriage Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU). We shall also be running a shuttle service from Princes Risborough Station (Note that this will probably be a mini-bus. The railway is, alas, closed for maintenance).
There is no ticket needed for this event, however if you can register your interest, that will help us with numbers, especially if you are coming by train.
The buffet car will be in full swing, with teas, coffees, hot food and snacks AND (if we can swing it) alcoholic beverages!!
10:00 to 17:00, Chinnor Station, Station Approach, Station Road, Chinnor OX39 4ER
If you would like to help us prepare for the day, please get in touch through enquiries@emups.co.uk
!!! ATTRACTIONS !!!
The Buffet Car will be open!
Yes indeed, we shall be serving up hot food in the shape of pizzas, pasties, cakes teas and coffees. We hope to be able to sell alcoholic beverages subject to licence.
We shall also be playing 1980's music commensurate with the lovely decor.
Merchandise for sale.
With Mothering Sunday around the corner, there will be a plethora of AMAZING merchandise for everyone at reasonable prices, all going towards the upkeep of the train.
Inter-rail memories.
Long before the Chunnel and cheap flights, the only way to explore Europe was by train. You've all heard of the luxury of the "Golden Arrow" Pullman service to Paris. Well, the grim reality was a boat train to Dover in a 12-CEP formation with a Motor Luggage Van tapped on the end. The Inter-Railers had to be under 24, hence the boat trains were full of these student-y Eurotrash invariably sitting on the floor or in guards vans with rucksacks trying to look cool.
We shall be recreating this in the guards van with rucksacks and mail bags that you can sit on. We will have a special guest stoned teenager playing "stairway to heaven" on the guitar.
Historic "Train not moving" experience.
Re-live the misery of commuting on the Central division by sitting in a chair and staring out of the window as the train doesn't go anywhere. You are welcome to do this for hours and nobody will think that you are mad.
Take a look around the train
Have a nose about, feel the luxury of a first-class compartment, sit in the driver's seat!
Historic Train Talks
Yes our local historian Chris will be on hand to tell endless tall tales about the train. Learn about drama and passion on Dartmoor, the tale of the single light in Blaenavon. See the toilet where Prince (now King) Charles learned that Princess Diana had died, also the compartment where Winston Churchill and General Eisenhower, signed the Magna Carta.
Very little of what he says is true, however he can be quite entertaining!
Kids activities
We shall organise some activities for kids if you let us know they are coming. Click the box on the registration page.
WORST raffle EVER
